The sad thing about this episode now is that the police in the next few days will lose the moral high ground and Seun will now be turned into a hero if not a martyr, God forbid.
We all saw the slap and we all screamed in anger. Then we all called for his head and supported the maximum punishment to be meted out to him.
But in my anger, I stated very clearly that his rights must be respected and that the Police must use this to show a different kind of police and a new nation.
I had said that he should be arrested, investigated, arraigned and if found guilty face the time or punishment.
In all these, his rights should be protected.
However, little tidbits that are being released show that the police are beside themselves with ‘pride’ with the capture of a very dangerous criminal.
He was handcuffed, and the clip released maximum humiliation o for daring to slap a policeman.
This morning, Seun’s Lawyer sent out an updated report which made me shake my head.
He was kept almost the whole day before he was driven in a high powered convoy to Panti according to the report by which time preliminary report had been sent to the Punch.
He was refused visitation by his spouse and we have also heard that a lot of police men who after ridding us of crime still had time to boo, taunt and humiliate this hardened criminal.
My people, it is looking like Seun tried to overthrow government o this one that not only IG but the all mighty Police Service Commission have put mouth and if not that Daddy is busy parking, he too for follow put mouth.
My real worry is that at this pace, the police will lose the public and we will now all forget the heinous crime this lad committed and begin to ask police wetin really happen?
Why can’t the police even for once just follow due process, treat him like a Nigerian with all of his rights as he goes through the justice system with his dignity intact.
The man did stupendously wrong. Only God knows what he was on when he did that. I have even stopped watching the video because anytime I watch it, I scream not only at the stupidity of this boy but at the ‘zombified’ policeman.

That was a caricature of a policeman. Hobbled by poor terms of service which had most likely put him in a position of servitude which led to this arrangement disregard of our sovereignty.
But behaving the way the Police is doing now, is putting them on the same pedestal as this misguided youth- if I can still call him that.
The police should stop all these agbaya things and use this unique opportunity to prove to the world that they are a responsible, law abiding state institution.
I really do hope I am not asking for too much.
