Zeb Ejiro, Anne Njemanze to settle out of court over ‘Domitilla’ trademark rights

Nollywood movie producer Zeb Ejiro and popular actress Anne Njemanze will both now settle out of court over ‘Domitilla’ trademark saga which has witnessed intensive legal fireworks of late.

The actress in a suit with the number FHC/L/CS/2305/2022, slammed movie producer Zeb Ejiro with a N50 million lawsuit over the trademark of ‘Domitilla’, a movie classic.

Anne Njemanze who filed the lawsuit through her lawyer, Bartholomew Aguegbodo also sought ₦‎5 million for the cost of litigation and lawyers fees incurred, as well as for an order of injunction restraining the defendants or any other person from using her trademark (Domitila) or any other mark that is deceptively similar to the registered trademark.

While responding to the suit slammed on him by the actress, Zeb Ejiro fired back by serving the actress with a countersuit for the sum ₦‎500 million.

“We will be asking her for ₦500m for using confidential information that she has access to during her role as an actress in the production of ‘Domitilla’ 1 and 2.”

Ejiro who spoke with newsmen at the time mentioned that he had offered Ann Njemanze a sum of five million naira unknown to him that she had gone to copyright the name.

However, the pair are now expected to settle the case out of court over the rightful ownership of the brand, as the Federal Trademark Registry has fixed May 4 as a date for a report of settlement in the dispute between Zeb Ejiro, and Anne Njemanze.

Asides fixing a date for the report of settlement, the Commercial Law Department of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, also adjourned for ruling, if the parties in the dispute failed to reach an agreement of settlement.
