Ebuka Obi-Uchendu reacts to decision by FG to lift ban imposed on Twitter

Popular media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu has reacted to the decision by the Federal Government of Nigeria to lift the ban imposed on micro-blogging site Twitter.

Recall that the Nigerian government had on 5th June 2021 suspended the operation of Twitter through an announcement made by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

However, the lifting of the ban was made known in a press statement on Wednesday signed by the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency and Chairman Technical Committee Nigeria-Twitter Engagement, Kashifu Abdullahi.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) directs me to inform the public that President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has approved the lifting of the suspension of Twitter operation in Nigeria effective from 12am tonight, 13th January 2022,” Abdullahi said.

“The approval was given following a memo written to the President by the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Ali Ibrahim.

“In the Memo, the Minister updated and requested the President’s approval for the lifting based on the Technical Committee Nigeria-Twitter Engagement’s recommendation.”

In his reaction to the development, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu tweeted saying the ban was lifted in time for election season.
