The much-anticipated 2023 general elections in Nigeria is just a few days away and the leading candidates have been identified as Peter Obi, Bola Tinubu, and Atiku Abubakar.

Rabiu Kwankwaso, who is seen as a dark horse, along with other candidates, will be seeking to translate their popularity into votes at the polls which are expected to be fiercely contested.

Candidates’ support bases will be key to determining who emerges as the next president and to this end, the U.S. Secretary of State Blinken and other senior administration officials have released a video message ahead of the Nigeria elections.

The timely video message released by the Public Affairs Section of the US Mission in Nigeria called on INEC and other concerned security agencies to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections.

‘‘The United States stands with Nigerians as they prepare to make their voices heard by voting in general elections on February 25. The United States does not support any individual candidate for office; we strongly support free, fair, and peaceful elections.’’ The message by the Public Affairs Section of the US Mission in Nigeria read in part.
