The police in South Africa have linked a prominent businessman from an influential family to the murder of popular rapper Kiernan Forbes, popularly known in music circles as AKA.

Recall that the rapper was tragically shot in an incident that also claimed the life of his close friend Tibz Motsoane outside a Durban restaurant in February 2023.

Court records pertaining to the prosecution of the accused gunman, however, suggest a possible connection between the killings and Sydney Mfundo Gcaba, a prominent businessman and member of a wealthy South African family.

According to the documents, a day after the terrible event, a business operated by Mr. Gcaba gave over 800,000 rands to Mziwethemba Harvey Gwabeni, one of the accused.

Phone records provided by the prosecution reveal a conversation between Gwabeni and Mr. Gcaba prior to the money transfer. Mr. Gcaba has not yet addressed these accusations, though.

The prosecution claims that the seven suspects in the shooting incident that took the life of AKA and his friend shared the money that Mr. Gcaba’s company transferred.
