Tunde Kelani’s ‘Ayinla’ gets Netflix licence, set to debut May 20

Tunde Kelani’s ‘Ayinla’ has secured licence from global streaming platform, Netflix and is set to debut to African subscribers from May 20th as reported by Shock NG.

The film produced by Jade Osiberu is set in1980 and based on iconic Apala music star who died the same year. It follows the events leading to his death.

The movie stars Lateef Adedimeji who played the role of Omowura with Debo Adebayo (Mr. Macaroni), Bimbo Manuel, Ade Laoye, Bimbo Ademoye, Omowunmi Dada and Kunle Afolayan (who doubles as executive producer) in supporting roles.

‘Ayinla’ is reportedly the first licenced title from Netflix this year and has joined a growing library of Nigerian titles on the platform.

The film premiered in cinemas in June 2021 recorded an impressive gross profit of N70 million in box office despite launching in 33 cinema locations.
