After one week of controversy which saw American sportswear company Nike has slammed a legal suit against the firm that created the controversial Lil Nas X “Satan Shoes”, the rapper’s latest single Montero (Call Me By Your Name) has shot to the top of the UK charts.

The US singer and rapper unveiled his latest earworm track and its elaborate music video last week, which has soared to the number one spot after just seven days of sales and streams.

Celebrating the news that his song had debuted at the top of the charts on Friday, Lil Nas X enthused: “I want to say thank you guys so much for making Montero (Call Me By Your Name) number one out there.

“I really appreciate you guys and I can’t wait to see you in person. And… yeah, Happy Easter!”

Recall that Nike in a suit accused MSCHF Product Studio, Inc. of trademark infringement over the designer’s 666 pairs of modified Nike sneakers made in collaboration with the “Old Town Road” singer.

In the legal complaint, Nike (NKE) asked the court to order MSCHF to “permanently stop” fulfilling orders for the “unauthorized” Lil Nas X Satan Shoes. The lawsuit notes that social media users have threatened to boycott Nike over the controversial shoes.
