Mayowa Odueyungbo aka Torrus the music wannabe who was criticised during his audition by Seyi Shay, one of the judges of the Nigerian Idol music reality TV show, has declared that the singer remains her mentor despite her harsh criticism towards him.

The 17-year-old singer who revealed this in an interview with The PUNCH said that the singer is someone he looks up to and what happened has not changed the way he sees her.

During his audition, Seyi Shay said thus to him after his performance: “Somebody lied to you and told you to come and audition, and that person, you should go back and tell them they’re not your friends because that was not a good audition.

“Oh, you have a good talking voice, and it comes out in your singing voice, but your performance, terrible. You’re never going to make money being a singer,” she added.

According to Torrus, the harsh comments by Sey Shay has only made him to want to work harder and be a better musician

He said; “I have always known Seyi Shay and I love her music.

“She is someone I look up to as a role model. What happened has not changed the way I see her. She has only made me want to work harder and be a better musician.

“It was the first audition I would be going for. I was watching television when I saw the advertisement. I was so excited that I was going to meet Seyi Shay and many talented artistes. I was so happy that I would get the opportunity to meet them. When I went for the audition, I was so excited to see Seyi Shay and I was so nervous because I have never been to such an event.

“When it happened, when I did my audition, I felt really bad about what she said but later, I am so happy that Seyi Shay did her job as a coach. She boosted my morale to work on my confidence, craft and myself,” he said.
