ESPN sports anchor apologises to Nigerians over comments made about Nigeria’s male basketball team

Stephen Smith, an ESPN Sports Analyst has tendered an unreserved apology to the Nigerian Basketball team after the comments he made about the team earlier on his show.

He made comments after the Nigerian basketball team D’Tigers beat the USA team 90-87 on Saturday night, July10, in its first pre-Olympic exhibition game, thus inflicting the country’s first ever loss to an African Nation.

Smith furiously spoke about the Nigerian Basketball team in a demeaning way after their win over the American team.

According to Smith, the United States should not in any way lose to the Nigerian team.

He even went on to mock the names of the Nigerian players on the show which aired on Monday 12th of July 2021.

The US Sports Analyst issued an apology to the Nigerian Basketball team after his demeaning comments and gestures towards the team on the ESPN show ‘First Take’ which earned him a lot of bashing from the basketball community, including the Nigerian Basketball team officials and the players.

Stephen Smith, who also made racist comments about Asian Los Angeles star Shohei Ohtani, apologized to both the Nigerian Basketball team and the Asian player and his race.
