The Federal Government of Nigeria led by President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has approved funds for the Super Falcons after the team shunned training on Wednesday night at the ongoing 2022 Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco as they protested over unpaid bonuses and allowances.

The development was confirmed by Toyin Ibitoye, the Special Assistant to the Minister of Youth and Sports Development on Multimedia who confirmed to LEADERSHIP Sports that President Buhari has given approval for the intervention fund requested by the Sports Ministry for the payment of Super Falcons’ allowances.

According to Ibitoye, the Ministry of Finance was already working on processing and releasing the funds.

“The money issues are being sorted. Mr President has given approval for the intervention fund requested by the Ministry for the Super Falcons. The Ministry of Finance is working on processing and releasing the funds.

“I don’t know the exact figure but the budget covers the bonuses and allowances of the team for the 2022 WAFCON,” Ibitoye said.

Reports say that efforts were made to resolve the matter after the players met with Nigeria Football Federation officials on Wednesday morning over the issue.

The nine-time African champions will take on the She-polopolo of Zambia in the third place match at WAFCON 2022 on Friday billed for the Stade Mohamed V, Casablanca.
