I was arrested over alleged fake news report on Ned Nwoko, Omoyele Sowore reveals

Omoyele Sowore, a former Presidential aspirant and publisher of news platform, Sahara Reporters has revealed that he was arrested by the police for defaming billionaire businessman, Ned Nwoko.

In a post on his Facebook page, Sowore after his release from police custody said that he had been freed from idiotic arrest and detention by security operatives.

‘‘Released from Nigeria Police Force idiotic arrest and detention. They claimed I defamed a criminal, Ned Nwoko! Useless people.’’ Sowore wrote on Facebook.

Sowore, according to a petition against him by former member House of Representatives, Prince Ned Nwoko through his lawyers is accused of injurious falsehood publication of news known to be false contrary to section 391, 392, 393, 394, 395 and 418 of the Penal code of Northern Nigeria.

The petition signed by Bryan U. Ukaegbu on behalf of Trifold Law & Partners, accused Sowore of several defamatory statements on his news outfit, social media handles aimed at running down their client’s business and political career.

According to the petition the publications were believed to have been done recklessly with no honest belief in the truth of the said words. Stating further that the quoted statements have elicited intense apprehension of imminent attack on his client.
