Minyoung Kim, Netflix Vice President of content for Asia Pacific, has explained the huge global appeal and the secrets behind the ‘Squid Game’- a South Korean fictional drama projected to be the most watched series on the movie streaming site.

While explaining the global appeal of ‘Squid Game’ during an interview Minyoung Kim Kim said that the success of the series is perfect evidence that, “our international strategy has been right”.

“The reason Squid Game has such great meaning for us internally is that it’s perfect evidence that our international strategy has been right,” Kim says. “We’ve always believed that the most locally authentic shows will travel best, so having a show that’s about really authentic Korean games and characters become really big not only in Korea but also globally — it’s such an exciting moment for us.”

Reports also reveal that Kim’s team has committed to spending over a half a billion dollars on Korean content in 2021 alone for the fictional drama in which adult contestants, who are deeply in debt, play children’s games in order to win a ton of cash.

Squid Game stars Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Wi Ha-joon and Jung Ho-yeon as a group of outcasts lured by a mysterious organization into playing children’s games for a cash prize — with deadly high stakes.

Meanwhile, Squid Game viewers obsessed with the Netflix series are sending money to real bank account featured in the final episode.

In the final episode of the series, the winner manages to escape the games with his life and is given a bank card loaded with the cash prize.
