New hit series ‘Squid Game’ now worth almost $1 billion, reports reveal

A report by Bloomberg News has revealed that the smash-hit Korean thriller series ‘Squid Game’, which is currently sitting atop Netflix’s list of most watched shows in 94 countries around the globe, is now worth almost $1 billion.

Citing figures from an internal Netflix document, Bloomberg revealed that ‘Squid Game’ is now estimated to be worth almost $US900 million ($A1.2 billion) for the movie streaming giant.

The nine-episode thriller, in which contestants play childhood games with deadly consequences in a bid to win 45.6 billion won ($A52 million), became an international hit when it launched last month.

According to the report, about 132 million people have watched at least two minutes of the show in its first 23 days, easily breaking the record set by US drama Bridgerton, which was streamed by 82 million accounts in its first 28 days.
