A tragic scene played out along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway when two nurses and two other victims were feared killed and ten other passengers got injured during a fatal auto crash.

The incident was confirmed on Monday by the spokesman for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, who said that the accident happened at Akinale village in the Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Akinbiyi also added that one of the survivors accused the driver of being on top speed and using a mobile phone at a sharp bend before the lone accident involving a white Toyota Hiace with number plate OG49A07 happened.

He said; “According to one of the survivors, the driver was on top speed and was using his mobile phone, while negotiating a bend. He lost control and the bus somersaulted several times.

“The injured victims were rescued and taken to Hope Hospital, Adigbe, before our arrival. The dead bodies have been deposited in the Ijaye General Hospital’s morgue.

“The occupants of the bus were nurses, who were heading for a party to honour the matron of one of the hospitals in Abeokuta.

“The two dead victims were also nurses in Ademola Hospital and General Hospital, Ijaiye.

“While the TRACE Corps commiserates with the families of the victims, motorists are again enjoined to avoid excessive speed, especially during the rainy season, as well as the use of mobile phones due to distraction and the attendant consequences,” Akinbiyi added.
