Our Duke has gone mad again… Edgar reacts to Olaiya Igwe’s ‘naked’ campaign for Tinubu

Opinion article by Duke of Shomolu, Joseph Edgar

I am really not in shock. The video was grainy and looked staged. It should be, it was of the Yoruba actor Olaiya Igwe.

He was ugly in the video and stark naked. He walked towards the sea and for effect lighting and storm were pushed in by an eager effects man.

His hands were in the air. His bottom is very tiny and his stomach big. Tiny legs and a huge head with breasts like that of a young virgin at the start of puberty.

His knuckles were black. The bleaching cream did not have any effect on that part of his withered body.

He had grey beards and the camera simply refused to show us his penis. The size would have told us very clearly the size of the anticipated victory of his principal

But someone would have whispered to him not to show us that part so as not to discourage supporters and give Atiku and Obi hope.

This was a very stupid showing. Walking stark naked with your hands in the air with a very un-sexy body was just an exercise in arrant stupidity.

This will not do his principal any favours but indeed show the calibre of people who are routing for this particular candidate.

After seeing this, my mind went to an interview I saw recently. A top Chinese official was explaining why they had better leaders than the West.

He said their system threw up statesmen while democracy threw up politicians.

He went further. Democracy gives everybody and anybody an equal opportunity to be part of the process and this according to him throws in low quality both on the voter side and also on the leadership side.

But theirs was deliberate. As in they went for selection rather than election. So according to him, you would have to have governed at least 2 million people at the local government level before you aspire to be President.

This statement has led me to thinking. In a country like Nigeria with mass illiteracy, is democracy really doing us well?

We hear of the North with the millions of urchins deciding who is our President all of the time or in Lagos where the street urchins who litter the many motor parks decide who the Governor is.

It is no wonder that things like Stomach Infrastructure and the like decides candidacy.

It is only with luck that the present variant of democracy can throw up the best of Leaders.

As I watch this nauseating piece, the words of the Chinese official come to mind.

If we were running a system that threw up statesmen, will this old relic of an actor embarrass his lineage like this?

It is because he knows that the system abhors issues and instead encourages banalities and this is why he would throw his hands in the air and with unshaven armpits rail to his gods to deliver a Tinubu Presidency.

The question in conclusion is, will this electioneering season throw up Politicians or will it throw up Statesmen?

From this video, your guess is as good as mine.

Thanks
