Queen Elizabeth II dies at the age of 96, bequeaths throne to her son Charles

Queen Elizabeth II, UK’s longest-reigning monarch has passed on to the great beyond at Balmoral Castle the ripe age 96.

The monarch who was born a princess but only became heir to the throne after her uncle’s abdication in 1936 joined her ancestors peacefully on Thursday afternoon.

The Crown will now automatically pass on to her son, Charles, the heir, who is now King of the United Kingdom and head of state of the UK and 14 other countries, including Australia, Canada and Jamaica.

The late Queen who steered the monarchy through turbulent times, survived by her four children, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
