Tragedy struck in the Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State when a boat mishap claimed the lives of no fewer than thirteen victims including women and children.
Reports say that the boat mishap occurred when the victims were traveling from Doruwa to Ginga.
The incident was confirmed to newsmen by the Chairman of the local government council, Aliyu Dantine Shagari, who said that eight of the victims were married women and the remaining five were children and elderly men.
Shagari also hinted that the cause of the boat mishap may be due to overloading.
”There are other causes of boat mishap including strong wind. We are still investigating the matter to know what actually led to the accident,” he said
He said the bodies of all the victims have been recovered and buried in line with the Islamic rites.
