Troops kill three suspected gunrunners in Sokoto; recover RPG bombs, AK-47 assault rifles

Troops of the Nigerian Army have killed no fewer than three suspected gunrunners who operate around Sabo Birni area- a border town in Sokoto State, during a raid on their hideout.

The killing of the suspected gunrunners during the raid was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Army spokesman, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima.

According to him, weapons were recovered after troops acted on credible information of gunrunners moving ammunitions on foot from the Niger Republic into Nigeria around 11 pm.

He said that items recovered include RPG bombs and RPG chargers, machine gun, AK-47 assault rifles and other accessories as well as the different caliber of assorted ammunition.

The statement read; “The highly vigilant troops mounted a successful ambush along the suspected route close to Garin Naimaimai Village and neutralised the three gunrunners.”
