US court postpones sentencing of alleged internet fraudster Hushpuppi

The sentencing of Nigerian fraudster, and Instagram celebrity Ramon Abbas popularly known as Hushpuppi has been postponed to the month of September 21.

The postponement was made by Judge Otis Wright of a United States Central District Court in California who said that the decision was made at the request of counsel.

“At the request of counsel, the Sentencing is CONTINUED to 9/21/2022 at 1:30 PM before Judge Otis D. Wright II, as to Defendant Ramon Olorunwa Abbas,” the court said

According to court documents by the United States Department of Justice (DoJ), Hushpuppi in April 2021, pleaded guilty to the multi-million-dollar fraud charges filed against him by the United States government.

Recall that Hushpuppi was previously scheduled to be sentenced on February 14 for defrauding people across different continents to the tune of millions of dollars.

An offence to which he pleaded guilty to sometime last year whilst seeking a lighter sentence.

Hushuppi stands at risk of getting a 20 years jail sentence; a 3-year period of supervised release; a fine of $500,000 or twice the gross gain or gross loss resulting from the offence.
