Nigerian singer Ayodeji Balogun popularly known in music circles as Wizkid has taken to social media to celebrate his historic win at the 2022 America Music Awards.
The ‘Joro’ crooner emerged the winner of the First Favourite Afrobeat Artiste category and also jointly won the Favourite R&B Song category for his track titled ‘Essence’ featuring Tems.
After he was announced as the winner in the two categories, Wizkid took to his Twitter page to celebrate the win by posting a purple and black love emoji alongside that of an eagle.
For clinching the First Favourite Afrobeat Artiste category, Wizkid became the first Nigerian artist to win two awards at the 50th American Music Awards (AMA) which took place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, United States,.

Wizkid competed against fellow Afrobeats artists Tems, Burna Boy, CKay and Fireboy DML in the Favorite Afrobeat Artist category which was introduced for the first time on 13th October, 2023.
The 2022 America Music Awards featured nominations in several categories from several artists including Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Harry Styles, BTS, Morgan Wallen, Kendrick Lamar and other top artists.
