Newly signed AS Roma coach Jose Mourinho has revealed that he cried and prayed after watching Denmark midfielder, Christian Eriksen suffer cardiac arrest during Saturday’s Group B clash between Denmark and Finland in the ongoing Euro 2020 tournament.

The former coach of Tottenham Hotspur who also coached Eriksen for two months at the club made the comments on talkSPORT when he said that the protocols, the level of the doctors, and the specialists, and also God was looking at football in that moment.

‘Today I cannot stop thinking about what happened yesterday,’ Mourinho told talkSPORT. ‘I think it’s a day to celebrate, not to be sad.

‘Hopefully, football went in a direction where the organisation, the protocols the level of the doctors, and the specialists, and I also believe God was looking at football in that moment.

“Everything together made Christian to be with us, to be with his family, to be alive.

“It was much more important than football but at the same time I believe that it also showed the good values of football.

“The love, the solidarity, family spirit. It was not just about his family it was about the football family. Football bringing people together…

“I prayed yesterday, I cried yesterday, but how many millions did it around the world? I believe many because football can bring people together.

This came after sports cardiologist Professor Sanjay Sharma, who previously worked with Eriksen at Tottenham Hotspur said that Eriksen is lucky to be alive but unlikely to play football again.

Sharma, professor of sports cardiology at London’s St George’s University, said football bodies and medical practitioners were likely to be “very strict” about allowing Eriksen, who is now with Italian club Inter Milan, to play again.
