‘Koroba’ crooner Tiwatope Savage has recounted her struggle with low self-esteem while growing up during an interview with Allure Magazine where she admitted to trying to bleach her skin.
The mother of one revealed during the interview that she was 14 or 15 when she mixed lemon with her creams to make her lighter as she felt out of place with her white friends as a teenager.
She however noted during the lengthy interview that she had a rethink after her mother discovered her mixtures and was disappointed that she had decided to tow the line of bleaching.
“I actually did try to bleach my skin when I was about, I think 14 or 15 years. Even now I have patches on my back. My mom was cleaning my room and saw the cream that I used to mix with lemons. She wasn’t angry. it was more her disappointment. So I stopped but I was always insecure about being dark,” Tiwa Savage said.
