The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kwara State Command, has arrested a man for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl on a farm at Banni in the Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, Mohamadu Malemu, of the Sango area, Banni, was alleged to have raped the minor, who was working on her father’s farm with her junior sister on Monday, April 19, 2021.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the victim’s father, Usman Mojana, of Gaa Mojana, Banni, reported that his daughter was raped on his farm while plucking locust beans from a tree.

Mojana stated, “My 10-year-old daughter reported that she was on the farm with her junior sister, who is six-year-old, plucking locust beans when the suspect commanded her to climb down from the tree and held her hand, while her sister ran away.

“He dragged her to himself, removed her clothes and raped her. She was later rescued by one Sheu Garba, who heard when she was crying. He informed other people and they got hold of the suspect and brought him to the office of the NSCDC in Banni.”

He added that the NSCDC later took the girl to hospital in Kaiama, where she was treated.

The NSCDC spokesman for the command, Babawale Afolabi, confirmed the arrest of the suspect.

Babawale said Malemu had made a useful statement and blamed the devil for his action.

“The eyewitness also confirmed that he caught the suspect in the act. When the suspect was interrogated, he also admitted to the crime, but stated that it was the work of the devil,” Babawale said.
