Hell was let loose at Igangan community in Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State, when gunmen suspected to be herdsmen killed no fewer than 10 persons and burnt houses, a petrol station and vehicles in the area.
The incident was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by the spokesperson of the Oyo State Police Command, Adewale Osifeso, who said that a combined team of the police, hunters, and vigilantes were able to halt the assailants from causing more damage.
According to Osifeso, the assailants invaded the community in the early hours of Sunday, June 6, with guns and other dangerous weapons and unleashed terror on residents.
The police spokesperson however informed that the situation is being closely monitored in the area and a comprehensive investigation into the matter is ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.
